Emily Talks Season 4 and Felicity’s Future!

Season 4 doesn’t begin filming until later this summer, which means for now, the cast don’t know what’s coming next, but when I spoke to Emily Bett Rickards at the Upfronts in New York last month, she had a few amusing thoughts on where Arrow left the characters. We spoke about where Oliver and Felicity might be going, the struggle to keep a couple strong on a TV show once you move from “will they or won’t they?” into “they’re together” and whether Felicity’s use of the Atom suit in the finale could lead to something more in terms of an alter ego for her character.

IGN: I guess that’s it. Oliver and Felicity are just going to take off. Maybe they’ll send a postcard every once in a while?

Rickards: Maybe! Maybe they’ll send it back to Thea and she’ll rip it and be like, “I’m too busy for this.” Then she’ll throw it up in the air as confetti in the Foundry, which will be new because there is no Foundry any more. So we don’t know where her lair is going to be.

Emily Bett Rickards Speaks With IGN About Arrow & The Flash

Felicity Smoak is everywhere these days. On Arrow, the character continues to play a crucial role on the team, while she also now has a new day job working alongside Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh). And this week, Felicity will also be seen on The Flash, as Emily Bett Rickards guest stars on the spinoff series, after Felicity goes to visit Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), following their initial friendship and flirtation when Barry was introduced on Arrow last year.

I spoke to Rickards about her guest role on The Flash and how Felicity gets along with that group of characters – which we’ll see even more of in a few weeks when The Flash and Arrow have a bigger crossover event involving the casts of both shows across both series. We also discussed Felicity’s current dynamic with both Ray and Oliver Queen, next week’s Arrow — which will reveal more about Felicity’s origins — and how she feels about the Green Arrow comics recently introducing a new DC Comics incarnation of Felicity modeled after her version of the character.

IGN TV: We’ll be seeing you on The Flash this week. What is it like for these two characters to meet again at this point, given that time has passed and a lot of things have changed now for both of them?

Emily Bett Rickards: I think it’s important to realize the big changes that are going on for Barry and who he’s becoming. He’s going through a big life change, and Felicity is a friend. Obviously there was romantic interest at some point, and there’s always going to be that sort of spark, but with these big life changes happening, they’re just looking for a friend, I think, and it’s really important to value their friendship.

IGN: What does she make of the fact that he’s turned into what he’s turned into — he has these abilities and is a costumed superhero — given the other superhero she’s hanging out with all the time?

Rickards: Yeah, that’s true. I think this is now her life. Not to say it’s not unique or surprising; I just think she’s just so willing now to not believe she knows everything anymore. She’s open to learning all of the time, because she’s going to get new things thrown at her every day. For the rest of her life I think she’s prepared for that — as prepared as you can be. The fact that he has super speed, she’s just like, “Okay, I accept that. I accept you. Let’s do this. Let’s move on!” [Laughs] “Let’s try and figure out other things about it.”

Emily Bett Rickards Talks Felicity’s Past and Future!

Emily Bett Rickards, who plays Felicity in The CW’s Arrow, has rapidly become a fan favorite and her character continues to make us fall in love with her each episode.

With new episodes of the series returning on January 15th, Rickards recently took some time to answer a few questions at the Warner Bros Mondo press tour, about what’s coming up in the show and more specifically for Felicity.

On how familiar she was with the Arrow universe

“I wasn’t extremely — I mean, I grew up with “Batman” and all those things, but it’s just now that I’m realizing — or just last year that I’m realizing how in-depth and detailed and how the stories have gone on forever. And it just blows my mind.” She continued, “And I’m so grateful that I was welcomed into this world because I wouldn’t have had a chance to sort of fall in love with it, I don’t think. And I have a lot of comics now.”

On what’s coming up in the show

“Lot more action, some crazy stunts I’ve been hearing about, just crazy stunts, people getting — not hurt, but almost hurt on set. And really, really intricate choreography for that. So we got that. We have some new characters and villains coming in, some taste testers of some other DC characters that will be awesome, I think a lot of people will like, and different characters crossing paths, which I think is needed. And we follow a story in “Arrow,” and we get to see an ensemble of characters, but not all those characters have met. So it will be really fun, and it is really fun to have those characters sort of cross paths and those stories get created.”
